Compare old vs new tire specs → diameter difference / circumference change / speed deviation. Helps select replacement tires.
The outer diameter difference is within ±3%, so the replacement is safe. The speedometer and ABS systems will work within acceptable error margins.
205/55R16 means: 205 = section width 205mm, 55 = aspect ratio 55% (sidewall height = 205×55% = 112.75mm), R = radial construction, 16 = fits 16-inch rims.
Outer diameter = (sidewall height × 2) + (rim diameter × 25.4). Sidewall height is calculated from section width × aspect ratio.
Why ±3% Outer Diameter Difference Matters
Beyond this range: speedometer inaccuracies (5-10 km/h error), larger tires may rub wheel arches, smaller tires reduce ground clearance, ABS and VSC may malfunction.
Rim J-Value Matching
Wider tires require compatible rim J-values. For example, a 6.5J rim best fits 195-205mm widths, while 7.5J fits 215-235mm.
